Discussion - Hardware / FT232H is not detecting in FT_Prog
« on: April 17, 2021, 06:50:49 AM »
Hello,

I am using FT_Prog to program EEPROM of FT232H based PCB module.
I tried to program EEPROM using FT_Prog it programs well and gives message that Finished programming and Ready after that when I reconnect my device to PC and scan in FT_Prog it just shows Ready message at bottom but device is not getting detected. FT232H was working with Spartan 3, 6 up to yesterday, I programmed it using FT_Prog and suddenly it happened.
Why this is so? Is my device is damaged? How to check this?
Please help in this.

Discussion - Hardware / FT232H failed to program Xilinx XC3S50AN
« on: April 12, 2021, 07:52:01 AM »
Hello,
We made PCB module using FT232H. I am using UrJTAG and xc3sprog to programming. It programs Xilinx Spartan 3 (XC3S400), Spartan 6 (XC6SLX4) then why it shouldn't program Xilinx XC3S50AN. Where XC3S50AN is programming using impact and HS1 JTAG cable so it is clear that our XC3S50AN circuit is good.
After all FT232H is your IC, Must Help.

General Discussion / Programming Altera Cyclone II and IV using FT232H
« on: March 16, 2021, 06:17:38 AM »
Hello,

I have made PCB module using FT232H. I want to program my Altera Cyclone II and Cyclone IV devices using JTAG. So can you please tell me the way of programming it using JTAG? My Xilinx Spartan 3 and Spartan 6 programming successfully using my module so it is clear that module is working properly.

Thanks in Advance.

Discussion - Hardware / Programming Altera Cyclone II using FT232H
« on: February 04, 2021, 05:19:43 AM »
Hello,

I have made PCB module using FT232H, and trying to program Altera Cyclone II and Cyclone IV using UrJTAG.

Initially both devices were not detecting so I tried with BSDL files still devices were  not detecting.

While testing Cyclone II, there was a message "TDO seems to be stuck at 1", but all connections are in well manner on hardware (not shorted to another pin). I was checking voltage levels of TCK, TDI, TDO and TMS. But when I connect DMM +ve port to TCK pin and common  to ground Cyclone II started detecting. On all Voltage levels of DMM it get detected. This happens only for TCK pin.

Why this is happening?

I also tried to programming Xilinx Spartan 3, Spartan 6 devices it detects and programs successfully without any additional thing like connecting DMM.

Comment on this.

Discussion - Software / Programming Altera Cylone II using FT232H

Hello,

I have made a PCB module with FT232H.
I am using UrJTAG to program devices. By using this Xilinx's Spartan 3, Spartan 6 and CPLD are programming successfully. Now I am trying to program Altera Cyclone II, Cyclone IV with the same platform but it fails to detect Altera device.
I also have Usb blaster. When I use USB Blaster with UrJTAG then it detects Altera Cyclone II, Cyclone IV and programs successfully.
But when i tried by using FT232H, Altera devices not detecting, even if i have added BSDL files for that particular devices. Sometimes it gives error like "TDO seems to be stuck at 1", but in hardware all seems good because in same way Xilinx devices are programming.
If there is any another way to program Altera Cyclone II/Cyclone IV using FT232H, please let me know.

Comment on this.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
1)   I am using “xc3sprog” with self-made PCB module FT232H for programming devices like Spartan 3, Spartan 6. Also tried for CPLD but error occurs as below. Please help me in this issue.

C:\Users\USER\Desktop\CPLD95108JEDFILE>xc3sprog -c ftdi -v andcpld.jed

Using built-in device list
Using built-in cable list
Cable ftdi type ftdi VID 0x0403 PID 0x6010 dbus data 00 enable 0b cbus data 00 data 00
Could not open FTDI device (using libftdi): device not found
Using FTD2XX, Using JTAG frequency   1.500 MHz from undivided clock
JTAG chainpos: 0 Device IDCODE = 0x29506093     Desc: XC95108
Sorry, can't program Xilinx device 'XC95108' from family 0x4a A more recent release may be able to.
USB transactions: Write 6 read 3 retries 0

2) As you have said use "UrJTAG", I tried it but Altera devices failed to detect.

Please suggest solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

a) We made a general purpose module of FT232H. For various applications of USB to JTAG, SPI, I2C etc.
b) We could easily program Spartan 3 or Spartan 6 Xilinx FPGA using "xc3sprog" freeware s/w.
c) Now we want to use this module under impact or Quartus (Altera) package to program other 5V devices like CPLD or 50AN or Cyclone 2 or Cyclone 4 etc.
Can you guide about needed driver s/w needed to achieve the above one or all?

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I have made PCB module using FT232H, which is working well.
I used "xc3sprog" to program Xilinx devices like Spartan 6 XC6SLX4, Spartan 3 XC3S400.
Now I want to program Altera Cyclone II EP2C8 with FT232H, is there any application similar to "xc3sprog" available for Altera programming?
Otherwise please let me know any suitable way to program Altera Cyclone II EP2C8 using FT232H?

Thanks in Advance.

Hello,

I have made PCB module with FT232H, which is same as UM232H circuit.

Now I want to program Altera Cyclone EP2C8 using JTAG, but can't understand how and where to start? How to use MPSSE for JTAG/SPI/I2C? Need step by step explanation for same.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I have assembled another PCB and now it is working properly. May be it was USB port issue.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Thanks,

1) Tried removing D2, D3, R7 or R5 but off no avail.
2) You must have had large experience using this IC, I request you to suggest some testing technique to come out off present impasse other than consolation statement of "I cannot see any glaring issues".

1) Please find enclosed schematic .pdf file.
2) After connecting to USB PC port, IC does generate 3.3V.
3) Crystal frequency (12 MHz) which was appearing previously has stooped appearing even after crystal change. So inverter inside IC may have failed along with IC itself.

Hello,

I have made a PCB module with FT232H using reference of UM232H, schematic is same as UM232H.

I followed procedure mentioned in “AN_396 FTDI Drivers Installation Guide for Windows 10” after that I connected module to my PC it detected in Device manager as USB serial convertor also detected in in FT_Prog. All seems good but only for 3 days. After 3 days suddenly module failed to detect in device manager and in FT_Prog. So I assembled 2nd PCB module with same design as previous but after few days it also failed to detect. Even I didn’t connect it to any other device but still problem occurs.

All Voltage levels are as per datasheet of FT232H. Need suggestion on this.

Thanks in advance,
